CMIT CONTINUES TO SET A NEW RECORD IN TERMINAL OPERATIONS

On September 7th, Cai Mep International Terminal – CMIT set a new record of cargo volume handled for a mainliner with almost 6,000 containers / 10,000 TEUs to be discharged from the M/v CSCL JUPITER.

M/v CSCL JUPITER capacity 14,074 TEUs/156,000 DWT is operated by Cosco in Asia – Europe service. The vessel, on her journey, got unexpected trouble, so COSCO decided to discharge all cargoes on the vessel at CMIT to continue her journey for repairing. CMIT has quickly found solution and arranged to support shipping line. With high productivity of 140 moves/hour, the MV. CSCL Jupiter, after 42 hours berthing at the terminal, has departed to Singapore at 2:00am, September 7th. “That discharging nearly 6,000 containers / 10,000 TEUs for a mainliner is a new record not only for CMIT but also for Vietnam’s seaport industry. CMIT and our customer highly appreciate the good collaboration and great support of the authorities, especially Vung Tau Maritime Port Authority and Cai Mep Customs Branch”, said Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky – Deputy General Director of CMIT.

The shipping line decided to discharge all  cargoes on board and transship them to another mother vessel after considering different conditions of wharf, container yard and operating capability in Cai Mep region. CMIT has always been pioneer in piloting accomodation of ultra large container vessel and currently be the only one in Vietnam permitted to handle vessel capacity 194,000DWT/ 21,500 TEUs. In addition, CMIT also successfully won the Silver Medal for the operation performance 2018 by CMA CGM for major ports in the Asian region. Now the new record of handling 10,000 TEU of cargoes for one mainliner continues to affirm CMIT capability and position in the international maritime map.
With 5 weekly mainliners deployed vessel from 9,000 TEUs to 14,000 TEUs operated by the world’s largest shipping alliances and above 140 barges, domestic feeders, CMIT has been continuously increasing its outstanding service quality, becoming one of the biggest deep-water ports in the country, making an important contribution to the development of Vietnam’s seaport system.
