In the afternoon 14th June 2021, Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) at Cai Mep Thi Vai area has successfully received that first vessel named PORTO KAGIO on the TP23/LIBERTY/ZSE service from 2M Alliance and ZIM line connecting Vietnam with the US. CMIT is the first calling terminal of her journey before berthing at other terminals in the world.
Porto Kagio calling CMIT for handling over 2,600 container equivalent to 5,000 TEUs cargoes connecting Vietnam directly with the US East Coast. With productivity at high level benchmarking with other big terminals all over the world, CMIT can handle this vessel within 22 -24 hours to ensure her on time departure and keeping marine schedule as plan.
2M Alliance – including Maersk and MSC line – and Zim line are currently among the biggest shipping lines in term of operation capacity and market share in the ocean transport industry, the total volume of these 3 players contribute more than 1/3 of the total container shipping volume globally. At Cai Mep Thi Vai, these shipping lines have had 3 weekly services for US market and TP23 is the 4th service newly deployed at CMIT to meet the increasing shipping demand, provide more options for importer and exporters and hence strongly boost Vietnam-US connection by an extensive vessel service weekly.
CMIT by pioneering in capacity increasing and ultra large container vessel receiving is currently the only terminal at Cai Mep and in whole Vietnam permitted and handled the biggest container vessel ever calling to Vietnam at 214,000 DWT. This has built shipping lines’ trust on CMIT service and decision to choose CMIT at the calling terminal for their new service in Cai Mep.
Maintaining effective terminal operation during COVID -19, CMIT has been implementing a number of countermeasures to prevent COVID-19 infection and building corresponding system at the highest level to ensure safe and health for employees and customer working at CMIT, and above all to keep continuous operation for the sake of a smooth logistics supply chain.
