On 17th June 2021 at Ba Ria Vung Tau province, Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) is honor to welcome COSCO HELLAS from COSCO and OOCL shipping line on the first call of new service AWE6/ VCE. She comes to CMIT for handling nearly 2000 container boxes equivalent to 3,500 TEUs directly to the US.
This is a newly added service berthing at CMIT to connect Cai Mep with other terminals on the rotation between Asia and the US East coast to meet the rising shipping demand recently. COSCO and OOCL shipping line are having 3 weekly services to connect Asia with the US at Cai Mep. The introduction of new service AWE6/ VCE proves a promising development of Cai Mep port in general and CMIT in particular.

COSCO/OOCL choose CMIT to call our service among Cai Mep terminals as we appreciate CMIT’s service quality based on long-term relationship between us and also with CMIT’s big shareholder in the world” shared by COSCO’s representative.
Overcoming the impact of COVID-19 on business, Cai Mep terminals has witnessed a strong increase of container throughput from the second half of 2020 and in 2021. 2020 volume rose 18% over 2019 and the volume in the first 5 months 2021 was 30% more than the same period in the last year. Despite having reached designed capacity, CMIT got 13% growth in volume of 5 months 2021 comparing with same period last year. Besides, shipping lines has brought 7 new services to Cai Mep from the beginning of 2021, which makes the total services calling Cai Mep climbing up to 31 services/week, for the direct US service only is 19 services/week. With the container shipping demand that is still in an uptrend, container volume at Cai Mep is forecasted to be positively increased in the coming time.
